Our story
From meal prep to BALANCE.
From Jonny’s home kitchen in early 2021 to our shop in Hebden Bridge, BALANCE has grown around a simple belief: eating well and enjoying life belong together.
What began as homemade meals alongside two jobs is now a home for Balanced Meals, coffee, cakes and bakes — with the same care and commitment to quality that started it all.
How we got here

The home kitchen
Working two jobs, Jonny began cooking meals for customers here and there, gradually building something of his own.

Twelve months later
Taking the leap
He made healthy, homemade meals his full-time focus, putting his time and energy into helping more customers eat well.

Over the following year
Meal Prep for All
The range grew to support different goals, from weight loss to weight gain. Soon afterwards, our first shop opened, combining meal prep with coffee and cake.

After 18 months of building
A new home. BALANCE.
The success of that combination led to our new Hebden Bridge shop. Balanced Meals gave our meal prep a new look, keeping its foundations and our commitment to doing nutrition right.

Jonny would often tell customers that a healthy lifestyle was about balance. There’s room for a nutritious meal, a slice of cake and time to enjoy both. Bringing those things together felt natural. Eventually, it gave our shop its name.

Family values, carried forward.
BALANCE is dedicated to the memory of my grandma and grandad. I was very close to them both, and they remain a huge part of who I am. This shop means so much to me because it gives me a way to carry something of them forward — not just in what we make, but in how we make people feel.
As a young boy, I cooked and baked with my grandma every week. Those times together have become some of my most treasured memories. Looking back, it wasn’t only about learning to bake; it was the time with her, the comfort of being together and the care that went into making something to share. Our homemade cakes and bakes still bring that warmth back to me.
My grandad always believed in quality over quantity. “If something’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right,” he would say. His words have stayed with me, and I think of them in the everyday decisions we make at BALANCE: choosing our ingredients, taking time over the food and paying attention to the details. I want to make things he would have been proud of.
That same care matters just as much beyond the kitchen. It’s in the passion behind our service, our team’s friendly, approachable manner, and the effort to make people feel comfortable and looked after. Even the flowers have their place — adding warmth, care and a little subtle beauty to the room. These things may seem small, but together they make the shop feel like somewhere you’re welcome to settle in.
To me, traditional family values are something you show through what you do: making time for people, offering a warm welcome and doing a job with care. My grandma and grandad gave me so much of that. I miss them, and having their influence woven into the everyday life of BALANCE makes this much more than a business to me.
I can’t share those days with them again, but I can carry what they taught me into this place, and share a little of the warmth they gave me with everyone who walks through the door.

We’re family friendly, dog friendly and wheelchair accessible, with a tucked-away outdoor seating area. However you spend your time with us, we want you to feel welcome.
